FILLMORE AAAC

The Fillmore mural is on a three-story building, two residential over commercial, in the historic Fillmore district. I was born and raised here in San Francisco. Fillmore district is dear to my heart, and the opportunity to work with Triple AAC and this location was perfect, magical and humbling.

So for this location, I wanted a style of mine that is really expansive and with a lot of movement, because the architecture of the building had a lot of facets to it that I needed to play around. Also, with the mural being in the historic Fillmore district - for a lot of people, this was historically the Harlem of the West - and there's a lot of adinkras, which are icons from mud cloth from Africa, that I placed into the mural that really play off of the history of the people of the neighborhood, as well as AAC, my own cultural background.

The different adinkras have different meanings that for people who do realize what they are know immediately. And also for people who don't know what they are, they look like patterns, but they still convey a meaning subconsciously to the passerby. I wanted to leave a statement and enrich the people from the past, present, and the future with this mural.
