HANDROLL
This restaurant in the Mission District features large windows with half-circle arches at the top. The mural is on the right side of the south wall, which has two windows with oval arches on the left. I wanted to invert that architectural element, creating a bowl-like effect that mirrors how hand rolls are served open-faced—an open-faced mural with the arch at the bottom.
The restaurant has a modern, sleek layout, which I complemented with monochromatic grays. The whole piece plays off the hand rolls themselves, the architecture, and the overall restaurant design—creating a deliberate interplay of elements.
