Questioning traditional painting substrates, I experimented with denim canvas during a time when Japanese selvage denim culture was peaking. This series bridges my two worlds: the contemporary raw denim movement and East Coast writing culture where denim jackets served as identity markers.

Through R&D, I developed a proprietary treatment process that allows denim to function as a viable painting surface while preserving its raw indigo character. Initially showing at White Walls in San Francisco with immediate sellout success, followed by Studio One in LA, this innovative series challenged conventional art materials before being appropriated by commercial entities without the technical understanding I developed.
